Quote No. 1
“Cervical cancer awareness is so informative and very helpful.
1. It helps us be aware how cervical cancer be treated and prevented
2. It helps us learn about the risk factors of having cervical cancer
3. It helps us to be aware with the importance of PAP SMEAR and HPV vaccine
4. It helps us to be aware about misconception regarding not having cervical cancer
Suggestion: Can you have a free PAP SMEAR and HPV vaccine for FDH too? Thanks.”
Feedback from Nepalese Community Health Worker: Ms. Nisa Rana
I am a community health worker (CHW) in Hong Kong. Since I joined this CHW project at CUHK, I have assisted many Nepalese women in Hong Kong to undergo cervical cancer screening. My mother was among these women whom I offered assistance in going through the cervical cancer screening procedures. While undergoing cervical cancer screening test (Pap test), the doctor informed us that a pair of polyps has been detected in my mother’s cervix. The doctor suspected that my mother might have got cervical cancer. So, some tissues from her cervix have been taken and sent for further examination. After a month, we received a report letter from the Maternal and Child Health Centre and we found that the screening result was normal. Thus, this CHW project play a crucial role encouraging us to undergo cancer screening, enabling the detection on whether the polyps are cancerous or not. Now, my mother is happy that she has not got cervical cancer. My entire family appreciates the opportunity to participate in the CHW project and would like to thank the entire team for helping people like us in undergoing pap screening test for cervical cancer prevention. Feedback from the health care provider:
“One of the community health workers (CHW) shared her experience in joining the CHW project. She is responsible to accompany the women to attend the cervical cancer screening test (Pap smear) in Yan Chai Hospital after providing multimedia education. The nurse who performed the test for the South Asian women showed appreciation for the CHW to assist the women of their ethnic group to have the test. Furthermore, she expressed that it is difficult to provide care to those women without their help. She also requested CHW to bring more women to have the test.”
Feedback from the ethnic minority staff in NGO:
“Bimala from Christian Action SHINE Centre expressed that the members in her centre who have joined the CHW project and undergone the cervical cancer screening test (Pap smear). It was very helpful for those women to go for cancer screening with the assistance of their peers in the community.”
